Settle down with a nice Burgundy

By Editor On August 19th, 2009 in Free Racing Tips /

As with yesterday, York’s day two card is intriguing but not full of standout bets.

However Burgundy Ice gets the thumbs-up from our Newmarket man to give Goldophin a first winner at this year’s Ebor meeting.

This Storm Cat filly made a pleasing seasonal reappearance at Sandown last month and is primed to break her duck for this campaign in the closing 4.40 event.

The rest of the racing on the Knavesmire is trappy but we’ve got a few big-priced suggestions for those of you that like a smaller tilt at each-way odds.

While most of the field have a chance in the Ebor (3.25), we’re willing to have a sporting interest in Camps Bay at 33/1 - Amanda Perratt won this race in 2000 and first-time blinkers may invigorate this five-year-old for a repeat performance.

The market leaders look poor value so we’ll take chance on this one - although the likes of Ladies Best and Record Breaker also have some e/w appeal.

Respendent Light has definite place prospects in the opener while Taajub is interesting in the Gimcrack - it’s just a shame that there are now only two places for that race.

Laterly for last race loot

By Editor On August 18th, 2009 in Free Racing Tips /

The Ebor meeting starts with a trappy but fascinating card and our nap is the locally-trained Laterly in the closing race at 4.40.

This is a typically competitive York handicap and there are a host of potential winners so keep stakes sensible on Tom Tate’s charge - in account terms, this is worth half a point bet (max 4 pts) with the mix of win and place to suit your punting style.

Definitely have at least some each-way part as a saver though as there are four places and this fellow ticks a lot of boxes - well-drawn,  back to form, suits front-runners’ track and on a winning handicap mark.

On the rest of the card, Godolphin really fancy Poets Voice but it’s a short price in the Acomb (they also rate Vale of York, btw) while Sea The Stars is must-see, even if not a betting proposition at the available odds.

Lord Aeryn is our next best in the 4.05 nursery - Richard Fahey loves this course and the word from the stable is very positive for this colt.

Again he’s an each-way price so have a least a saver to place.

Alwaary has the form to land the Great Voltigeur from Father Time and Harbinger.

Captain Dunne could be the one in the immensely difficult opening event.

Back with a bet in the Dante!

By Editor On May 13th, 2009 in Free Racing Tips /

After a spell where we couldn’t find a value bet despite scouring the racing programme, we’re back with an account bet in the Dante Stakes at York (2.40).

Crowded House makes absolutely no appeal at 6/4 favourite so we’re going to row in with the back-to-form Godolphin team and the hugely promising Kite Wood.

Trained by the excellent Michael Jarvis last term, this progressive colt is available at 13/2 with Ladbrokes (6/1 with Paddy Power) and is worth a 0.5 point each-way investment.

We’d also suggest a small each-way bet on Kite Wood at 20/1 for the Derby with Sportingbet (16s generally) as the word from the Goldolphin camp is positive.

It’s a tough Dante but, win or lose, there’s a poor value favourite and we’re happy to bet.

We’ll try to update the website more regularly now the season is kicking into full gear but we most certainly won’t bet until the time and the odds are right.
