Join in Grand National punt

While Bet On Horses concentrates more on Flat racing than the jumps, we have to join our sister site Cheltenham Festival Tips in grabbing some Grand National value.

We’ve had our eye on a runner in the race for some time and, as he is getting sustained support for the second time in a week, it’s time to act.

We are advising a 0.5 points each-way bet on State Of Play at 25/1.

Click here and you’ll get FIVE places and £100 worth of free bets from Bet365.

In truth, we wanted to hang on a little longer with this bet as withdrawals at the head of the market could lead to State Of Play carrying just over 11 stone on the day - not ideal on the trends - but the 33/1 has gone recently and we can’t let the same happen to the 25s.

Evan Williams’ inmate only falls down on one other key trend and that’s the lack of a recent run - however he won the Hennessy on his seasonal debut in late 2006 and has a touch of class as evidenced by his Charlie Hall success last November.

He ticks all the other boxes and has been laid out for this race by his canny trainer.

McCoy aboard Calgary in Arkle

By Editor On February 17th, 2009 in Racing News /

Tony McCoy looks set to renew his big-race relationship with trainer Henrietta Knight when Calgary Bay takes his chance in the Arkle Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival.

McCoy seems unlikely to be claimed by his retaining owner JP McManus in the race so Knight has announced that McCoy is likely to replace Dominic Elsworth.

Calgary Bay is a general 6/1 shot for the two-mile novice chase championship.
