Unlike our sister site Cheltenham Festival Tips, Bet On Horses is more focused on Flat racing than the jumps.
We will have bets over the sticks but the faster horses are the ones that excite us!
As all roads are leading to Cheltenham at the moment, we’re probably due a slightly quiet period but, rest assured, our ears and eyes are open and we’re evaluating a whole host of betting opportunities every day - we’re just waiting for the right ones to come along.
There’s one horse we’re looking at for Saturday but probably only a 40% chance we’ll invest currently - check back tomorrow to see if there’s an update.
Runner-up John Potts did his best to spoil the party but our bet - and we weren’t the only ones judging by his odds plunging from 7/1 to 9/2! - on Nautical proved a superb start to punting by Bet On Horses in 2009.
It’s great to be back in the UK after our sunshine break over the winter and we’re looking to make serious money in ‘09.
The 15.4 point profit is a most welcome start to the year - so hats off to our Wolverhampton correspondent.
It might only have been half a length but our boy’s final furlong burst won the day.
Our best trackside contact at Wolverhampton has passed on a late word for Nautical in the 5.40 event.
The strength of the bet - 2 points win, 1 point place at 7/1 - is more based on the lack of decent opposition than any belief that the old boy is about to flourish.
Tony McCoy looks set to renew his big-race relationship with trainer Henrietta Knight when Calgary Bay takes his chance in the Arkle Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival.
McCoy seems unlikely to be claimed by his retaining owner JP McManus in the race so Knight has announced that McCoy is likely to replace Dominic Elsworth.
Calgary Bay is a general 6/1 shot for the two-mile novice chase championship.
Harry Findlay and his team have busily mopped up all the 6/1 about the owner’s Big Fella Thanks in Saturday’s Racing Post Chase at Kempton.
With previous leading market fancies Madison du Berlais and Can’t Buy Time withdrawn from the race, Findlay quite rightly saw the chance to grab a value price about the seven-year-old.
If successful, Findlay and trainer Paul Nicholls would be enjoying a second consecutive victory in this event following Gungadu’s triumph last year.
The Bet On Horses view would be that 6/1 would have been a lovely price but we wouldn;t be too sure about taking the current 3/1 available with many firms.
